The
President welcomed Mrs Nan Paton as the new President and presented her with
the President’s Badge of Office. Nan won
the Northamptonshire Championship before coming to Cheshire. She has contributed to Cheshire Seniors golf
as a member of the team for many years and won the Championship in 1989. Nan was Captain in 1999 and has also been a
selector. Hilary wished Nan a very
enjoyable two years as President.
Nan thanked
the Past Captains for giving her the opportunity to be President for the next
two years and looked forward to supporting Lis Wilson in 2011. She wished Lis and her team much success and hoped
we would retain the Richardson Trophy.
Nan is hoping to meet many of the ladies at the Field Days and is
looking forward to her two years in office.
15. Introduction of the New Captain:
Karen
welcomed Mrs Elisabeth Wilson from Stockport as the new Captain. Lis, from Stockport Golf Club has a long and
successful association with Cheshire County golf. Between 1970 and 1994 Lis played in 22
Northern County match weeks. During that
time Cheshire won the Northern Division Championship 6 times and won County
Finals twice. Lis was County Champion in
1975 and was County Captain in 1991. She
has also been the scratch score assessor for several years. This year Lis played in all the Richardson
Trophy matches without a loss. A keen
birdwatcher and walker you can usually spot Lis with a pair of binoculars
strung round her neck! Karen said she
could not think of anyone better to lead the Cheshire Team in 2011 and was
delighted to present her with the Captain’s Badge of Office.
Lis thanked
the Past Captains for inviting her to be Captain in 2011. Senior’s golf is very special, providing fun
and friendship and although we get frustrated with our game at times we realise
how fortunate we are to be playing this wonderful game and particularly on the
fine courses we have in Cheshire. Lis praised
the team in winning the Richardson Trophy and knows that we will do our very
best to retain it. She is looking
forward to the matches and competitions, meeting many old friends and making
new ones and closed the meeting by thanking everyone for their support and good
wishes.
